Tamiya Toyota GAZOO Racing TS050 HYBRID 1/24

As I decided to write one post per model, I will show and describe all the rest steps until the finish.
First and foremost I finishedwith the decals. Iwould say that decals on this model is the most difficult part. Bacause Tamiya suggests to apply them after the final assembly. But then you cannot apply clear coat on the model and polish it. That's not how I build my models.

That's why my approach requires temporary preassembly of the painted parts to apply the decals, then carefully cut them and disassemble. Very tricky and complicated process. Especially complicated part is the cabi which contains plenty of decals and required clear parts to be prepared and the chrome roof preassembled as well as air intake on top. And just to mention, I usually keep clear parts intact and unpacked till the last moment due to they are so easily get scratches.

Then followed my favorite part - drawing and laser cutting. Even though most of the racing cars sports carbon breaks, I cannot stop myself from from cutting them from steel.

Painting of other parts followed as well. There's nothing special to describe. Just painted in accordance with the manual, but used different shades of metalic paint as I don't really like Tamiya's acrillic metallics. InsteadI used either Tamiya LP, Mr.Hobby or Hambrol.

To make wheels look realistic I sanded the working surface with 400 grit sanding paper. The rims were painted in Metal Gun (according to instruction), then assembled and used add-on decals with additional markings for FR, FL, RR, RL tyres. Then weatheredthem a bit with Tamiya weathering master powder. And finally applied matt clear coat to remove the shine and hide height of the decals.

The the rear wing I cut-out plastic fixtures and cut the new ones from steel with my laser cutter. There were some hickups during the process so , I had to redo the spoiler and apply carbon decals separately and then Michelin decals on top. After that everything were covered with matt clear.

I also love to work on the seat. Here was not much work, but I made my own seat belts with laser cutted buckles instead of the decals from the box. (I hate when the belts are given as decals, it immediately make the model toy-like look). But I used part of the decal to add yellow brand markings.

After the polishing and final assembly I decided to weather the entire model. It was my first weathering experience and I used AMMO Shader series paint - Ash Black. I think it turned out very well. And the model started to look much more alive as it was in a real race after 24 hours. Thank you for reading till the end and enjoy the photos.
